Cuppa App

I was tasked with creating an original app concept and full prototype in my UI/UX Design course. I chose to make Cuppa, an app for people that love brewed drinks like tea and coffee. The app features a timer, recipes, articles, shopping, and user profiles. The prototype also features contextual menus and a search bar. The mockup below was created in Figma and I used Adobe Illustrator to create assets.

For the visual identity of the app, I chose earthy tones and serif fonts to mimic the environment of a coffee shop and the physical appearance of coffee and tea.

I created multiple color palettes to choose from, settling on a selection of warm reds and oranges to reflect the content of the app.

One of the factors in my decision was how the colors read in the app. The cooler colors were soothing but looked cold and didn’t evoke brewed beverages.

I hand-drew the icons in Illustrator, using a sketchy style that loosens up the visual identity of the app.

For the final UI design, I incorporated high-quality imagery and a mix of serif and sans-serif type to create a coffee house vibe.
