Vanderbilt Center for Languages: Creating a Distinct Identity Within Vanderbilt’s Brand

Vanderbilt Center for Languages Logo Design

The Center for Languages (VCL) at Vanderbilt University supports language learning and teaching across a multitude of programs and initiatives, including events, grants, and workshops. The VCL’s wide range of touchpoints and applications necessitated a flexible visual identity that works within Vanderbilt’s existing branding guidelines.

The VCL is also growing its presence across campus with programs such as language tables, tutoring, cultural events, branded merchandise, sponsorships, and more. The new branding needed a distinct visual identity to build brand awareness among students while remaining true to Vanderbilt’s established brand standards and visual language.

Beginning with the logo, I combined the speech bubble and globe motifs into one icon and simplified the form. The new logo is more adaptable for different scales and complements the new wordmark with its dynamic speech bubble form.
